In Australia, driver licence classes are standardised, meaning the categories are consistent across all states and territories. Your licence class determines what type of vehicles you are allowed to drive. Each class has its own rules, eligibility criteria, and testing requirements, depending on your vehicle type.
Let’s take a closer look at what that means for drivers in Victoria. From standard car licences to heavy vehicle endorsements, each class serves a different purpose. In this blog, let’s explore the different Victorian Fake driver’s licence to give you a clear, easy-to-understand overview.
What are Learner and Provisional Licences?
Victoria’s graduated licensing system follows a three-tiered structure, helping new drivers develop skills safely. Here’s how each stage works:
Learner Licence
To apply for a learner permit, you must be at least 16 years old. The process also includes verifying identity, passing an eyesight test, completing the Driver Knowledge Test (DKT) and paying applicable fees. After holding the learner’s permit for 10 months, you can take the Hazard Perception Test (HPT).
Provisional P1 Licence
After passing the HPT, you need to complete 120 hours of driving, including 20 hours of night driving. This way, you are eligible for the P1 licence, which stays valid for 18 months. During this period, you can drive solo but must follow certain restrictions, such as displaying red ‘P’ plates and limits on peer passengers.
Provisional P2 Licence
After holding the licence for 12 months, you can progress to a P2 licence. The P2 stage lasts for 3 years and comes with fewer restrictions. Once completed, you’re eligible to apply for a full driver’s licence. At this stage, you can also consider upgrading to heavier driver licence classes, such as LR, MR, or HR, depending on the vehicle type you plan to drive.
